We received this inspiring letter from Michael Q., a father of 2 young boys who has been doing Power 20 every day for the past 7 months.
I have tried to take care of myself physically but over the past few years it’s been incredibly difficult. I have a stressful job in financial services which requires me to be in the office by 6:30 am and stay planted in my seat for essentially 11-12 hours. I get home to my wife and 2 boys (ages 6 and 3) usually around 6:45 pm where I have many home duties (inclusive of dinner, dishes, cleaning up toys, spending time with kids, make lunch for next day, etc.). Usually the evening routine winds down by 9:30 pm where most duties are done and the place is clean with both kids are asleep (I pray). Very bluntly, there is little downtime for anything else.
Typically by the time the evening is done I am exhausted with a low energy. I couldn’t even muster the energy to leave the apartment and go downstairs 2 flights to the free gym that is in our building to workout. I even joined an external gym with squash courts and a swimming pool to get motivated! I couldn’t make that work more than once a week, usually on the weekends (and in the evening). In a nutshell, if there was an opportunity I just want to sleep. Life is REALLY that difficult.
At my yearly physical last year, my doctor said my cholesterol had shot up to 270 and I had gained 10 pounds. While he said I was within the guidelines given my age of 45, he suggested I make time for some physical activity. I had been physically active several years prior, but had been remiss in recent years.
So I had heard about all these stationary cross-training workouts that were online and I searched, which is where I found Power20.
Every Monday through Friday since July 2015, I have been waking up at 5:15am and doing the Power20 for 20 minutes in the living room in front of the TV. This is the only convenient time for me. I have supplemented the workout with a low dose aspirin, and moderating eating habits which include of eating less of my children’s leftovers.
While I find it difficult to go at 100% intensity at 5:15 am, going at 80% has still provided good results for me. I have dropped several pounds and more importantly, my cholesterol has dropped 50 points. I realized that I my strength and energy level were both increasing when I wrestling with my rough and tumble 6 year old and I could go the distance with him without getting tired. As a matter of fact, now HE takes water breaks instead of it being the other way around. Furthermore, my physician seemed to be quite proud of me and suggested that I keep with the workouts and the diet.
Sure around the holidays, I binge on my diet a little and perhaps sleep in, but in general I stick to it as this is the only quick and intense workout that fits conveniently into my life right now for me. I am not out to win any physical contests, I just want to be healthy. And Power20 has helped do it for me.
